Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Mary Kate Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the family and friends of the late Miss Mary Kate Moore. This academic scholarship, when fully sustained, will be awarded on an annual basis to a student of the Green County High School graduating class. To be eligible, a student must exhibit an interest in chemistry and be willing to pursue this interest upon entering a college or university.
The Mary Kate Moore Memorial Scholarship exists only because of the many generous benefactors that have been so kind and have contributed to the fund. By supporting such a cause with your generous donations, you are doing more than just honoring and preserving the memories of Mary Kate, you are also providing an opportunity for someone in the community to advance their studies and grow intellectually. A secondary education is something that few people are blessed with. Although Mary is no longer with us in body, she is however present in spirit. By helping to provide for a bright, young individual, Mary's spirit can continue to touch and help this community for generations to come by working through others.
For eighteen years, Mary excelled in every aspect of life. Mary had a motto that she lived by; "We never know how tall we are until we are called to rise, and if we are true to plan, our statues touch the skies" She believed that an education was the cornerstone for achieving your dreams and desires. Because of this mentality, every thing she ever set out to do in life simply turned to gold. Besides her academic accomplishments, Mary was a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a niece, and friend to many. She enjoyed running cross-country and track, of which she represented Green County for 7 years. The times when she wasn't running, she was a cheerleader, cheering at football and basketball games. When summer arrived, it was good-bye sports, and hello evening wear as pageant season began. Many of her special girl friends were made over the course of many year while doing pageants. Mary always enjoyed the excitement of competing. She always wanted the crown for other girls as much as she wanted it for herself. "Going to the state pageant wouldn't be any fun", Mary said. The fun in going to state was not the competition, but rather being with her best friends. This was always a reoccurring theme in Mary's life; Having Fun, Having Friends, Having Family, Having Life. That was Mary Kate -- always smiling.
